The Special District and Local Government Institute (Special District Institute) was founded over thirty-nine years ago to provide training and information for Special Districts and Local Government Agencies, including a Special District Leadership and Management Certificate Program, educational seminars, workshops, technical assistance, resources, publications and a special district listserve (hosted by yahoo).

The mission of the Special District Institute is to enhance the quality of special districts and local government through the education of the Boards of Directors, managers and key staff.

We know that special districts and local government agencies represent a unique form of government with highly specialized missions, therefore, much of the job knowledge and work information is not available. In order to meet this need, we have specially designed our seminars and workshops to address the unique challenges encountered by special district board members, CFOs, professional management and administrative personnel.
